From service to coordination
A modern butler service is first and foremost a coordinator. Not a servant standing beside you waiting, but a professional who knows what has to happen today, who is needed for it and what goes wrong if nobody follows up. The work consists more often of calls, planning and being present at the right moment than of serving.
Where the difference shows
The difference lies in the things nobody plans. The engineer who arrives two hours late. The delivery that can only be accepted in person. The car standing in Germany. The dinner that has to be moved while you are in a meeting. Individually small things that together throw a week off balance.
Discretion is the actual service
Anyone who gives a butler access to their diary, home or family also gives access to information. That is why discretion is not a side note but the core of the profession. A good butler does not talk about clients, not about the previous one and not about you.
When it makes sense
A butler service makes sense when your time is worth more than the time you spend arranging things, or when you simply need a butler reliably present. That can be a standing arrangement, but equally well for one week, one trip or one specific request.
